What are layerpads and what are they used for?
Layerpads, also known as separator sheets or layer separators, are materials used in packaging and logistics to separate and protect stacked layers of products. These sheets are placed between each layer of products in a package or pallet to provide stability, prevent damage, and facilitate handling and distribution.
Layerpads are designed to withstand the weight and pressure of the products stacked on top of them, preventing them from being crushed or deformed. By providing a flat and stable surface, they help maintain the structural integrity of the products during transportation and storage.
These layer separators are especially useful in industries such as food and beverages, electronics, automotive, and pharmaceuticals, where products are often fragile or sensitive to impacts, friction, or excessive pressure. By using layerpads, the risk of damage, breakage, or deformation is reduced, ensuring that products arrive in optimal condition at their final destination.
In addition to their protective function, layerpads also facilitate the efficient handling and management of products during loading and unloading. By dividing the layers of products and providing a stable surface, layerpads allow for proper and even stacking, optimizing space and preventing unwanted movement during transportation.

What are Celulosa Gallur’s layerpads like?
Celulosa Gallur’s layerpads, being made of 100% recycled multi-layer cardboard, are rigid, flat, and of uniform weight.
These solid fiber separators, or layerpads, replace traditional cardboard separators used in plants producing cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles. They are reusable, resulting in cost savings and increased efficiency.
In addition to providing extra protection, layerpads stabilize products and evenly distribute weight to ensure that packaging does not suffer damage during transport.
Layerpads are custom-designed for each customer, with options for corner cutting and die-cutting to prevent the separator from damaging the plastic protective film.
AVAILABLE IN GRAMMAGES RANGING FROM 250 g/m2 TO 900 g/m2.
Layerpads for the food industry
These are suitable for the food industry as they prevent migration between the separator, packaging, and food, as demonstrated by the regular controls and analyses conducted on our cardboard:
- Determination of chlorides according to UNE-EN ISO 9197:2008.
- Determination of sulfates according to UNE 57154:2004 (identical to ISO 9198:2001).
- Determination of corrosive potential according to UNE 57101:2006.
- Determination of pH of aqueous extracts (cold extraction) according to ISO 6588-1:2012.
- Compliance with 21CFR176.170 for low-alcohol beverages under filling and ambient temperature storage conditions without container heating.
- Determination of mercury, cadmium, lead, and chromium according to UNE-EN 12497:2006 and UNE-EN 12498:2006.
- Migration of mineral oils.
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) compliance.
What are the benefits of using layerpads in product packaging?
The use of layerpads in product packaging offers several significant benefits. Below are some of the key ones:
Protection
Layerpads provide an additional layer of protection between stacked product layers. They help prevent damage, breakage, and deformations by absorbing impact and evenly distributing the pressure exerted on the products during transportation and storage.
Stability
By separating and keeping product layers properly aligned, layerpads provide stability to the load. This prevents unwanted movements and reduces the risk of slipping, tipping, or collapsing of packages or pallets during handling and transportation.
Space Optimization
Layerpads enable a more efficient and organized stacking of products. By providing a flat and stable surface between layers, they maximize the use of available space, both in transport trucks and warehouses, which can result in increased efficiency and cost savings.
Facilitated handling
By dividing product layers with layerpads, the loading and unloading process is simplified. This facilitates the handling and management of products, streamlining logistics processes and reducing the time and effort required.
Customization
Layerpads can be manufactured in various sizes, thicknesses, and materials, allowing them to be tailored to the specific needs of each product and application. This provides flexibility and customized options to ensure optimal protection that meets the requirements of each load.
Sustainability
Many layerpads are made from recycled materials and are fully recyclable. By using them, sustainability is promoted, and it contributes to waste reduction and the responsible use of natural resources.
